Establishing a college is a great responsivity, and not only to your future students and their parents, but also to the area, where your college is situated. With a help of your students you can make a real difference in your neighborhood, in return, it will bring them a feeling of acceptance and a real community.
What to start with? Here is a list of ideas about the activities your college could take part in your local area.
Participate in a local festival
Doesn’t matter /a> if it is a big annual Thanksgiving parade or a local farmers’ food fair, you can encourage your students to become active participants of the event. Your college band can play some music and culinary club members can raise money with selling the cupcakes. You can also make your college grounds one of the festival venues and organize some fun event for the local high school kids.
Tutor local schoolchildren
This is a great opportunity for your best students to get some hours of community service work and master their teaching skills while tutoring. Offering free private classes for kids, who need them, makes a great impact to their future lives. It might happen that your students would be the first people, who really care about them and their future education.
Promote green
Ecological problems have been a big issue for many decades all around the world. Conduct exhibitors or seminars about the ecology at the neighboring schools /a>, organize an ecology day at the local pond or promote the separation of garbage, and ultimately highlight and idea that one person can make a change.
Sing some carols for Christmas
Remember old-good tradition of singing carols while moving from house to house on Christmas Eve? Collect some volunteers and learn nice Christmas hymns. Ask your students about the carol traditions of their ancestors and you will find many great British, Greek or Slavic ethnic elements that can be incorporated in your little show. You can visit random houses in the neighborhood or go to hospitals, housing facilities for the elderly and disabled, homeless shelters, orphanages and other institutions. None of the participants will ever forget this Christmas with its kind and charitable atmosphere.
Clothes drive
Organize a clothes drive to collect winter clothes like coats, sweaters, hats, scarves, and gloves to be donated to the people in need, when the temperature gets really low. Besides, your students might wonder where to give in the good clothes they do not wear anymore. Additionally, it is a good idea to promote recycling and second use of clothes among your students.
Remember, that all activities your college takes part in your local area, bring not only a positive impact on the community, but also increases trust and loyalty of your prospective students and their parents in your college. Keep active!
